Grant Secured for Cathedral Kitchen Safety Upgrades

We are delighted to share that Christ Church Cathedral has been awarded a Community Benefit Fund Minor Community Organisation Grant of $11,693 to upgrade the kitchen equipment used in our Sunday breakfast ministry for people experiencing homelessness. The grant was approved by the Northern Territory Government in September 2026.

For many years, Cathedral volunteers have faithfully prepared and served sandwiches, tea, coffee, and water each Sunday morning to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Every week around 100 sandwiches and large quantities of hot drinks are distributed, all made possible through the dedication of our volunteers.

The grant will fund a range of important safety improvements, including:

  • Installation of a commercial wall-mounted hot water boiler

  • New insulated beverage containers with improved seals and handles

  • A heavy-duty trolley designed for safely transporting hot drinks

  • A commercial pre-rinse tap to improve cleaning processes

  • Other equipment upgrades that will make the ministry safer and more efficient for volunteers.

These improvements respond to workplace health and safety risks that had been identified in the current process of preparing and transporting large volumes of hot water. The upgrades will significantly reduce the risk of burns and spills while also increasing our capacity to serve those who depend on this ministry each week.
